Whoa. Cry fest. Prayers for Bobby (a Lifetime television event) was on the other night, and since I don't have T.V. I went on Itunes and downloaded it for something like $3.99. Well worth it.Here is the trailer.
It was a hard movie to watch. The movie involves the true story of a close-nit christian family and their reactions to homosexuality. The mother in the movie (played by Sigourney Weaver) takes it incredibly hard and prays that her son "be cured" of his ailment. The stress and self-loathing that Bobby feels grows and eventually becomes too much to handle and he commits suicide.
The mother blames herself and feels that she did not listen to Bobby or show him compassion. She begins to question her beliefs and eventually decides to speak out about how churches treat homosexuals and how suicides by gay teens could be prevented.
What I would stress though, is that Bobby made his own decisions on suicide- I don't want it to seem like I believe his mother killed him.
I'm interested in what you think about it. Please comment.
